Adenium flower from seeds at home

Plants are not only home decoration, but also a source of oxygen. Beautiful flowers on the windowsill attract attention, especially those that are grown on their own. For an adult plant, a long adaptation period is required, but adenium from seeds at home can be planted without additional problems. The main thing is to comply with all conditions of watering and care.

Choosing a variety of adenium

In total, not many species of adenium plant are known. The following are a few of them that are suitable for planting at home:

  • Obesum. Adenium is often called "obese" and is very popular due to the formation of many flowers and an almost absent dormant period. The inflorescences are similar to a rose in shape and have different shades, they can bloom in orange, yellow, purple, pink, white.
  • Somali. This variety is distinguished by a turnip horse system, which is placed above the ground level. In shape, the flowers resemble a star with curved edges.
  • Arab. Pink or white inflorescences. The plant has a thickened stem.
  • Swazicum. The plant is distinguished by its unpretentiousness, a slight dormancy period, pink flowers, narrow twisted leaves.
  • Multiflorum. Adenium is characterized by abundant flowering. The rest period is up to 4 months.
  • Oliefolium. The flower grows rather slowly in comparison with other species. The plant is unpretentious, with narrow leaves and pink with yellow inflorescences.

Adenium attracts attention with its unusual appearance

The most common variety is Obesum, which is easy to plant, care for and unpretentious.

Sowing time of adenium

The best time to plant a plant is early spring - mid summer. Before growing adenium, you can use seeds that were purchased in winter. In this case, it is recommended to etch them with a fungicidal agent.

Selecting a container for sowing

The container for sowing a plant can be any. There should be small holes at the bottom that will allow moisture to pass through. You can make them yourself with a screwdriver or a nail. A container with a lid will become more convenient, which will create the effect of a greenhouse at home.

Soil preparation

For this plant, it is better to choose soil with good air and moisture permeability. Such a soil is perfectly structured. Its low density does not retain water and contributes to the correct development of the flower, which helps to grow it without difficulties.

Before sowing, it is necessary to choose a suitable soil, paying attention to the following properties:

  • availability of nutrients;
  • acidity;
  • appointment;
  • the composition of the main, auxiliary components.

At home, for adenium, you can use a primer based on coconut fiber or peat. To make the substrate more airy, it needs to be loosened.

The seed mixture should be half all-purpose soil and baking powder. As the second component, you can take charcoal, perlite, foam balls, fine expanded clay, river sand.

The soil for the flower should be loose

Sowing seeds

The grains must be soaked for 3 hours, after which they can be planted in loose soil. Drainage is laid under the ground. Watering is best done with a spray bottle, the ground should be moist, not wet.

Advice! On top of the container for planting adenium seeds, you need to put polyethylene or cover with a lid.

Sowing in peat tablets

The use of peat pellets begins with the selection of the appropriate size. After that, they must be put in a pallet, filled with warm, settled water and wait 15 minutes. Then the water should be drained. You need to put 1-2 seeds in each groove. Can be left open or covered with humus.

When a flower sprout appears

Under favorable conditions and caring for adenium from seeds at home, seedlings can be seen 3-5 days after planting. The maximum term for sprouts to appear is 2 weeks. If during this period it was not possible to germinate the seeds, then they can be considered unviable.

Attention! Adenium will bloom only in the second year.

The first shoots look like leaves without leaves

What affects germination

The grower needs to prepare all conditions for the plant, including optimal temperature, lighting and soil. The greatest attention should be paid to the quality and storage conditions of seeds. If the sowing technology is not followed, an unexpected result can be obtained, and most often the germination of seedlings will be zero.

Transfer to a permanent place

The plant can be transplanted into a pot if at least two true leaves have appeared. The diameter of the pot should match the size of the caudex at the widest part of the adenium. In young seedlings, the distance from the edge of the pot to the trunk is 3-4 cm.

The transplant can be postponed if the sowing of the seeds was carried out immediately to a permanent place. The soil is used the same as for the greenhouse, but the flower tolerates soil replacement well.

Attention! Adenium experiences the least stress when transplanting in a transhipment way. The sprout is transferred to the pot along with an earthen lump.

Watering should be moderate, with drying of the topsoil. The first time it is better to maintain the optimum temperature.

What to do if adenium seeds do not germinate

Sometimes difficulties arise with planting a flower, especially many complain about the lack of sprouts. The reason for this may be old or mature seeds, which have a low germination rate.

Other factors:

  • lack of moisture;
  • excess water;
  • damage by parasites.

Also, adenium sprouts may not appear due to poor or too active sunlight, poor soil, cold, lack of feeding.

Basic rules for watering

When growing adenium from seeds during the period of active growth, the soil is moistened as it dries. From spring to summer, the volume and frequency of watering gradually increases. In cloudy weather, adding water once every 2 weeks is enough, and in sunny weather - once every 7 days. The soil must be completely dry before watering.

Watering should be infrequent

During the rest period, moisture depends on the temperature. It is better to refuse watering at 10-20 degrees, otherwise the perennial may die in a few days. At higher temperatures, water is added as needed. The average frequency of watering is once every 1.5-2 months.

Important! Upon departure, an adult plant can withstand up to 7 weeks without water, but young shoots cannot withstand this period.

Subject to all the stages and techniques of maintaining a flower, there should be no questions about how to properly plant adenium seeds at home. Beautiful inflorescences will not leave anyone indifferent. When growing several types of adenium, you must immediately sign them in the tray.
